  1. In How do you remember all the syntax?

    20 years of programming and I still google f-string format specs.

  2. In Should I delete the debug line or comment it out?

    In real projects you often want debug output back later. Commenting it out keeps it one keystroke away. The task is practising exactly that habit.

  3. In JAXA, H3 — real rockets?

    Yes, H3 is JAXA's current launcher. The mission name is fictional though.

  4. In Stage 2 — why reverse the loops? Solution

    To decide if a column is clear you need to look at every row in that column before deciding. So the outer loop is the column, the inner loop goes through rows, and a blocked flag records whether any row had debris there.

  5. In [[]] * 3 behaves weirdly

    The "Debris grid" challenge has this trap if I remember right 😬

  6. In How strict should valid_email be?

    Joining words with single spaces: " ".join(name.split()) collapses any amount of whitespace. Nice trick for clean_name.

  7. In How does the checker test a "live" countdown? Solution

    Stage 2 is the trick: by making countdown(launch, now) take now as a parameter, the checker can pass a fixed time and get predictable output. That's exactly why the challenge is structured this way — testable time.

  8. In Stage 2 — why is K to F refused?

    The (factor, offset) design is elegant — the same two formulas handle every pair, forward and reverse.

  9. In splitlines() vs split("\n")

    timestamp[11:19] in stage 2 — same slicing as in "Date and time from a timestamp". The challenges build on each other nicely.

  10. In Hidden tests plant bugs — how does that work?

    This is basically mutation testing. Great way to learn what makes a test useful.
